Why Is There Water Around My Furnace When the AC Is Running?
You walk downstairs in July and find water around the furnace.
The furnace isn't even heating.
So why is it wet?
Because during cooling season, your air conditioner may be the source of that water.
The indoor portion of your cooling system commonly sits above or near the furnace, and air conditioning naturally creates condensation as it removes humidity from the house.
Why Your AC Creates Water
An air conditioner does two important things:
Warm indoor air moves across the cold evaporator coil.
Moisture in that air condenses on the coil, similar to water forming on the outside of a cold drink.
That water collects in a drain pan and exits through a condensate drain.
