Why Is My House Still Humid With the AC Running?

The AC is on.

The temperature is reasonable.

Your AC Is Also a Dehumidifier

Not exactly in the same way as a standalone dehumidifier, but cooling naturally removes moisture.

STEP 03 Moisture condenses and drains away
The system needs enough runtime and airflow to make that moisture-removal process work effectively.

An Oversized AC Can Cause Humidity Problems

This surprises homeowners.

A bigger AC can cool the thermostat location very quickly.

Then it shuts down.

Because the cycle is short, the system may not spend enough time removing moisture.

That is another reason proper equipment sizing matters.

Check the Fan Setting

If your thermostat fan is set to ON instead of AUTO, the blower may continue moving air across the evaporator coil after active cooling ends.

Depending on the system and conditions, that can affect how moisture behaves inside the home.

AUTO A reasonable everyday setting for many homes during cooling season.
ON The blower continues circulating air even when the active cooling cycle has ended.
If you are struggling with summer humidity, AUTO is usually a reasonable setting to try unless your system has been intentionally configured differently.

Is the AC Short Cycling?

Short cooling cycles can also reduce moisture removal.

If the system:

you may notice both comfort and humidity problems.

The underlying cause of the short cycling needs to be identified.
